BATANGAS CITY- The full packed Batangas City Sports Coliseum roared with excitement as Batangas City Tanduay Athletics once again wowed the crowd in the inaugural Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Anta Rajah Cup with a convincing 70-64 victory versus Muntinlupa in Game 1 of the Finals on Friday.

Teytey Teodoro dropped 20 points, four assists, and three rebounds off the bench while Val Acuna contributed 14 markers, four boards, and four dimes of his own as the Athletics used a big third quarter to break away from their challengers.

The home team was chasing down a three-point deficit early in the second half before Acuna and Teodoro combined for what proved to be the crucial push in the game.

The sharpshooting swingman hit three triples while the scoring guard had a couple of short stabs in a 15-4 run that snatched away a 46-38 advantage in their favor. The Cagers struggled back to tie the tally at 64-all with 69 ticks to go before Teodoro’s 4-0 run kept them at bay once and for all.

With that, Batangas remained undefeated in the first-ever playoffs of the league, coming off a sweep of Bataan in the quarterfinals and then a blanking of Valenzuela in the semifinals. Two more wins in the best-of-five championship and they will be bagging the league’s inaugural title.

Muntinlupa was paced by Dave Moralde and Allan Mangahas who scored 12 and 11 points, respectively. (PIO Batangas City)
