Believing that education is a key to a bright future, financial assistance for tuition fees and books is given to poor but deserving college students in public and private schools and those enrolled in vocational or technical courses at Technical Education and Skills Development Authority. Transportation allowances are given as incentives to students who graduated valedictorian and salutatorian in elementary.
Batangas City is now the leading LGUs in the country that implements this program which continues to help the poor to have access to free hospitalization. From an initial funding of P3million when the program was launched in 2004, the budget allocation grew to P60 million in 2009 with the card holders numbering 3,521 to date.
Beach lovers and scuba divers can go to the coastal barangays of Isla Verde, identified as part of the "center of the center of marine biodiversity" to enjoy the rich and colorful beauty of the sea. One can also try hiking in the scenic Mt. Banoy and experience the panoramic view at the top. To the lovers of culture, they can visit the state-of-the-art Museo Puntong Batangan and get glimpse of the history and culture of the Batangueños.

Batangas City People's Council develops a three-year road map.

After its formation, the Batangas City People's Council (BCPC) felt it lacked direction on how it will support civil society groups. USAID CHANGE facilitated a strategic planning workshop for the BCPC on November 16, 2023. The activity was funded by the city government. Around 33 CSO and 6 LGU participants attended, including Councilor Nelson Chavez. During the activity, the BCPC formulated objectives, indicators, targets and milestones that will strengthen its committees, manage and improve the capacity of members, and implement projects that will help communities for the next three years.

So What? A trategic plan will prepare the BCPC to become as effective voice for the people in engaging with the local government.

Sa wakas, pinapayagan na rin ang mga simbahan sa Batangas City na magdaos ng Misa at tumanggap ng mga parishioners simula sa Linggo, July 5. Sa Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, may 500 katao lamang ang pwedeng pumasok sa loob ng simbahan alinsunod sa 50% capacity na requirement ng IATF-EID.

Ayon kay Rev. Fr Angel Pastor, Kura Paroko ng Basilica, dapat sundin ang mga ipinatutupad na health protocols.

Bago pumasok sa loob ng simbahan kailangang pumila ang mga parishioners. May mga nakatalagang tauhan upang magsagawa ng thermal scanning o pagkuha ng temperature at magiispray ng alcohol. Mayroon aniyang nagdonate ng misting booth kung kayat kailangan ding dumaan dito bukod pa sa foot bath na kanilang ilalagay.

Kailangan din nilang malaman ang ilang personal information ng mga dadalo para sa contact tracing kayat magkakaroon ng registration kung saan dito din ilalagay ang seat number. Hinihikayat ang mga maninimba na isulat sa papel ang kanilang pangalan, address, edad at contact number at isumite bago pumasok sa loob ng simbahan.

Mahigpit nilang ipinatutupad ang pagsusuot ng face mask at social distancing sa pamamagitan ng paglalagay ng marka sa mga upuan. Ang mga may edad na 21-59 taong gulang lamang ang maaaring makasimba. Mula sa siyam na misa tuwing araw ng Linggo, lima lamang muna ang kanilang isasagawa. Ang mga ito ay sa ganap na ala sais, alas otso, alas dyes ng umaga at alas kwatro y medya at ala sais y medya naman sa gabi. Ipinagbabawal ang pagpahid at paghawak sa mga imahen upang maiwasan ang pagkalat ng virus.

“Malaki ang epekto ng pandemyang ito sa Catholic community dahil ang simbahan ay isang social institution. Marami ang gustong magsimba na hindi makapagsimba. Kayat ngayon na pinapayagan na na mas marami ang makadalo sa misa, sana sa pamamagitan ng okasyong ito ay mabuhay muli ang pananampalataya natin sa Panginoon,” sabi ni Fr Angel. Hiniling din niya na patuloy na manalangin upang mawala na ang covid 19 at patuloy na magpasalamat sa Diyos . Nagpaabot din ng pasasalamat ang parokya sa lokal na pamahalaan sa tulong at suportang ipinagkaloob nito noong panahon ng ECQ at GCQ. (PIO Batangas City)
