MEDICAL / HEALTH
The provision of primary health care is being undertaken by
the City Health Office which provides medical services to the city's 105
barangays. Batangas City has six health units with a total of 70 Barangay
Health Centers. These are commonly staffed of doctors, nurses, dentists,
midwives, etc.
Only Unit I which is based at the Office of the City Health Officer at the City
Hall has daily schedule of medical services from Monday thru Saturdays, 8:00 am
to 4:00 pm. The other units are on scheduled basis.
Batangas City has 3 hospitals and five clinics that are all located in the city
proper. The services offered by these hospitals/clinics to the city and
provincial residents include out-patient treatment, child delivery, EENT
treatment, surgery, internal medicine, pediatric, obstetrics and gynecological
treatment and diagnosis of social diseases.
CITY FACILITY FOR STREET CHILDREN
The city government in cooperation with its sister city
of Langenfield, Germany constructed a Drop center for Street Children
located at the DJPMM site in Barangay Cuta. It is being managed by the
City Social Welfare and Development office (CSWD). The center provides
basic social services to those below seventeen (17) years old to get them
off the street, unite them wit their families and be integrated to the society.
In CY 2001, the center was able to serve forty (40) street children.
FREE LEGAL SERVICES
With the observance of the principles of social justice in the 1987
Philippine Constitution, free legal services could be availed by indigent
litigants of Batangas through the City Government of Batangas in cooperation
with the different government agencies like the Batangas City Police Station,
City Fiscal's Office, the Public Attorney's Office, Municipal Trial Courts,
Regional Trial Courts, and the City Social Welfare and Development
Office (CSWDO).
In running the wheels of justice, all complaints must be directly filed with
the Batangas City police station. The aggrieved parties are given free legal
assistance by the City Fiscal's Office whereas the indigent accused are
likewise given free legal assistance by the Public Attorney's Office. After
the appropriate filing of the cases either at the Municipal Trial Court or
the Regional Trial Court, depending on the gravity of cases, trial of cases
would ensue.
Worthy to be noted, however, is the fact that the City Social Welfare and
Development Office (CSWDO) takes charge in the rehabilitation, care and
treatment of children who were victims of child abuse.
