Batangas City, among the Top 5 in the Philippine Cities' competitive ranking project 2003
Batangas City has significantly improved its rating in the Philippine
Cities' Competitiveness Ranking Project (PCCRP) 2003 as compared to last year.
The city Competitiveness Program (CCP) of the Asian Institute of Management Policy
Center was established in 1997 with the end goal of helping Philippine urban
centers cultivate competitive industries, promote healthy communities and maximize
the competitiveness potential of the Philippine cities. From its ranking of No.8
in 2002, the city has now been included in the Top 5 of the PCCRP 2003 rating
indicating its dynamic potential in terms of promoting an improved
investment climate.
As per information from Engr. Sonny Godoy, Batangas City Planning and
Development Coordinator who presented City Mayor Eddie B. Dimacuha in the
national presentation of findings held at the PICC just recently, a total of fifty
major Philippine cities were included in the program. These cities were categorized
into Metro cities, Mid-Sized cities wherein Batangas City and Lipa City were
included, and Small-Sized cities. He added that several competitive drivers were
used in the rating which included low cost of doing business, strong linkages to
major urban and growth centers, dynamic local economy, highly skilled human
resources, adequate infrastructure, responsive local government and improved quality
of life. The PCCRP utilizes quantitive indicators from existing city data and
qualitative indicators based on projections of businessmen and the private
sector.
The PCCRP utilizes quantitive indicators, which are sourced from existing government
data and qualitative indicators, which are findings based on the projections
of businessmen on revenues, quality of life and growth of investments.
